Fixing Broken Halloween and Christmas And Garden Lights that have been tangled up and pulled apart roughly. There are lots of fancy led lights on sale for Halloween, Christmas or for garden and other parties. Although relatively cheap as a one off they tend to be purchased in bulk and when they are being put away they tend to be thrown in bags or boxes with or within dying or dead batteries inside. For some spooky sub-atomic reason, however carefully they are collected together they always seem to tangle themselves together in such a way as to make the user lose patience trying to pull them apart. This often involves ripping out one or other of the wires from the powerpack in an attempt to untangle them. Such was the fate of these Halloween LED Bat lights and rather than throw them away, this is how I set about fixing them. Most storage box plastic doesn't recycle and becomes brittle over time. These box usually break when taking the lids on and off and my wife had two boxes which suffered such breakages. Rather than throw them out, and them end up in landfill, I decided I'd fixed1t applying a think layer of Flexible Hot Glue from a hot glue gun, but hot glue by its nature leaves and ugly mess. I had somebody ask why I bothered to fix these £60 robots when they broke, they asked why I didn't just throw them away and get another.

To me its not about money, I can easily afford to buy new, its about not contributing to the rubbish mountains for broken electronic gadgets and toys, It's about fixing things so they can be passed on to new owners, who maybe couldn't afford the original full price, but can afford a second hand device, and imagining their joy when the open the boxes and find not a damaged seconded hand robot but one which is better than new. # Its also the joy of fixing that which is broken. My Cubee robot is Dancing and Singing as new after #fixed1t​ successfully replaced all four of his leg and hip servos damaged when he dived off my desk whilst I was using him as a bluetooth speaker to demonstrate my MadWaves MadPlayer. #fixed1tROBOTtips A recently purchased Anki Cosmo turned out to have both a defective screen(just black pixelated with white dots) its full of stars and dying battery, so I plan to replace them both. I was hoping to repair the screen but given yet another stupid manufacturer Anki apparently paranoid about intellectual property had proprietary screens made by a manufacturer who no longer makes them, and Anki themselves went bust, it leaves owners in another stupid position. My view is if they have used standard screen hardware people would have been able to keep using them and get them fixed and companies wouldn't go bust due to increasing numbers of returns they can't fix and broken stock they can't recycle. Getting a broken Nintendo Wii U Gamepad fixed can be expensive whether its a Cracked screen, damaged screen and broken touchscreen. A friends son broken theirs before Christmas and rather than have presents they ask for their present to be my repairing their Wii U Gamepad. So I set about purchasing the spare parts and carrying out the wii fix.

This video is an edited version of the fix, it slow and steady paced for educational reasons and because rushing a cheap fix can lead to the nintendo gamepad being ruined. I recommend you watch the video from start to end, at least once, before starting to manipulate your own cube.



The cube I used is a special high speed Rubik's Cube, if you need one please purchase using this link, doing so will give me a few cents in commission, but will cost you nothing.



Note: Your Rubik's Cube colours and positions will be different to the one I used as there are most likely Billions of combinations, but the pattern moving solutions and algorithms should work with your Cube once you have practised and understood the moves.  This video is deliberately SLOW so watchers can copy the move and solve their CUBE in near real time just watching and pausing and doing.



The Rubik's Cube Is A Great Way For People Of All Ages To Keep The Hands, Eyes And Minds Active. Solving the Rubik's Cube takes a certain degree of mental agility and 3D Dexterity plus a high level of concentration and memory, in the use of complex algorithms. But most of all its great fun. As I've gotten older my hands fingers have become stiff and several arthritic, manipulating the Rubik's Cube helps my fingers and joints warm up and reduces joint freezing and stiffness.  The mental concentration required to solves the cube of help as your though processes and hand to eye co-ordination reduce with age.  As a diabetic I have discovered another side effect, it is totally impossible for me to complete the Rubik's Cube with a low blood sugar, so the Cube can indicate when blood sugar levels giving the diabetic a hint to eat when no blood glucose testing equipment is to hand. I plan to look into this further.



Its also a good BREXIT-anaesthetic

Unused Robosapien V2 Wiring Damage

Having taken this Robosapien V2 out of the box and removed its body panels I noticed some rotting wire damage, but as I took off the plastic wire wrap that holds the wires neatly together the insulation on the wire completely disintegrated making a mess everywhere and exposing all the copper wires shorting them out.  Had there been batteries in this robot the wires would have begun melting and the batteries dangerously overheating and leaking.

A Great Opportunity To See And Unloved Huge Toy Robot Rejuvenated

I've managed to get hold of a WowWee Robotics Robosapien RS V2 in White which must have been purchased as new before 2009. This unit is fully boxed and although the box is a little tatty, it has all the internal panels and restraints in place. This truly is an Unloved Toy that must have sat in a garage or attic somewhere for over a decade, only to be discovered and sold to me. As many of you know these robots had a serious Manufacturing fault in that the insulated wire running between the chest input/output and CPU boards to the sensors and motors in the legs was gravely inferior. Since manufacture the wire sleeving has dried up turning the brittle dust. If the V2 Robot had batteries in it when this happen it invariably died and in some cases caught fire due to the huge current for the 6 x D size batteries shorting out and in some cases exploding. What makes this one so very special is it has never had batteries in it, its wiring although most likely dried out has never short-circuited. Its also serendipitous that I happen to see it on eBay and purchase it as repaired Humanoid Robots is my speciality. There I should be able to return this rare unused Robosapien V2 to Brand New state before passing it on to a good home. So if you were ever interested in robots as a child and fixing things this Four Part series is for you or a geek you know or for a child who is handy with a screw driver.
