Testing Superglue Removal From Uneven Plastic Surfaces - Part 2 Using Heat

This video is Part 2 of a 9 Part series Investigating Superglue Removal From Uneven Plastic Surfaces and has come about after many requests from subscribers to find a solution to the problem of spilling Superglue on their Android Phones, Tablets and Computers.  In this video I experiment with a heat gun, dental scrapers and plastic razor blade to de-bond and remove the Superglue from my deliberately damaged Google Nexus 7 tablet back panel, hopefully leaving the minimum of mess or damage. #fixed1tresearch

Superglue Removal Experiment - Why The Nexus 7 Case

I've been asked why I close the Google ASUS Nexus 7 case on which to apply eight drops of superglue, so I can try to remove them.

In my view, for my experiment to be even remotely scientific it needs to be:

reproducible
use available resources
straight forward
have an end point
work to a goal

Nexus 7 android tablets are readily available. Although the inside of the case is smooth plastic, the back outer surface is a kind of rubberised material and has a rubber like feel.  This surface is definitely rough and is likely to absorb and hold the bonded Superglue.  It may even have its surface covering compromised and changed by the superglue.

Here are the 8 individual drops, magnified significantly:

Superglue Droplet 1

Superglue Droplet 2

Superglue Droplet 3

Superglue Droplet 4

Superglue Droplet 5

Superglue Droplet 6

Superglue Droplet 7

Superglue Droplet 8

So there are the 8 drops of bonded superglue.  Number 8 is my control and when all other things have been tested I will then try a proprietary superglue remover.

Removing Superglue From Uneven Plastic Surfaces - Part 1 The Experiment

This video is Part 1 of a 9 Part series Investigating Superglue Removal From Uneven Plastic Surfaces and has come about after many requests from subscribers to find a solution to the problem of spilling Superglue on their Android Phones, Tablets and Computers.  In this video I explain the experiment which undertakes to de-bond and remove the Superglue from my deliberately damaged Google Nexus 7 tablet back panel, leaving the minimum of mess or damage. #fixed1tresearch

Second Sony AIBO 210 From South Korea Has Neck Damaged In Transit

I'm having real difficulties getting a working Sony AIBO delivered without it being damaged by the shipping company,  the first ERS-210 I bought had a broken neck and various other problems, this one was working when the seller made his YouTube Video, but broken by the time it arrived at my home.

I need to develop the knowledge to fix these ASAP as there are very few people who do it and nobody in the UK.  If you previously repaired these and live in the UK I love to speak with you.

My Sony AIBO 210 Neck And Head Repair Update One

I've been informed by #wolfbob that my AIBO 210 Neck and Head fix has been successfully completed and that the AIBII named 'Bo' should soon be reunited with his headless body.

It looks pretty sick without its head:

Sony AIBO 210 With Head Removed With Body Front Facing

Sony AIBO 210 With Head Removed In Side On View
but hopefully it will all work once its all connected up.

This is one fix I would have loved to do myself, but as I had no spare or other parts available I took the wise decision and send it to somebody who has.

Reducing Toddler Choking Hazard From Kiddies Plastic Construction Toys

There are lots a great large plastic construction toys for kids aimed a different age groups and it isn't always possible to ensure a nosey toddler isn't going to find a piece and put it in their mouth.  So the best thing to do is spend a little time Reducing Toddler Choking Hazard by modifying some of the more dangerous pieces.  This video shows how I do it, of course the larger the hole the greater the risk reduction. #fixed1ttip

New Toy Repair Blog - DIY Toy Repair Shed

Hi,

I've been publishing 'Working' DIY Toy Repairs, Fixes and Modification Youtube videos for some years, but realised that having them scattered in different Blogs with

fixed1t

at the start of the title reduced Blog traffic and views. Therefore, I've created the Blog:

 DIY Toy Repair Shed

The use of the shed analogy is that a lot of happy men (and some women) who have practical hobbies have sheds, rooms or studios they do their creative, practical and repair work in, and there is a degree of light hearted camaraderie between us 'shed people' and much mockery from those not experiencing the joy, relaxation, cursing and happiness that comes from practical work. ;-)

If you have previous Bookmarks to my toy repairs and fixes please delete them as they will no longer work and update your bookmarks to the blog link in this page above.

I am also taking the opportunity to embed links in some of my youtube videos, as a purple banner note in the top right hand corner, to take you to a playlists of my other associated Toy Repair fixed1t, videos so you won't have to search around for the next videos.

If you have a few moments it would be great if you could try it out by selecting the video below and let me know if this works, by leaving a note on this post, thanks.

I've also decided this blog shouldn't only be about my fixed1t fixes I've already created, but should be an active 'shed' for fixers to chat, to post repair items, pictures and stories.  For others who have a problem they'd like me or one of my 'shed' colleagues to investigate and try and suggest a fix for, just post a question on this Blog and I and anyone playing in the shed could try and take a look, if we solve it I'll post the solution.

This shed will only work effectively as a kind of club house with your input, please come along and play.

 Thanks for your continued support.

How To Replace A Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi

I have carried out a case replacement on a friends child's Nintendo DSi which had a broken hinge and possibly damaged cables.

Picture of Red DSi With Broken Hinge

So I video'd it to let people see how it can be done with some low-cost tools, patience and a smattering of knowledge.  The entire videos takes 14.5 mins and given most watchers span is considerably less than this for How To videos, I've split it up into seven pieces, that seven fixed1t YouTube videos. Here are the links:

Part 1 - Replace A Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi - Broken Hinge

Part 2 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi - Replacement Case

Part 3 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi - Removing Battery & Back

Part 4 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi - Removing Motherboard & Controls

Part 5 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi - Removing Lower Display and Top Cover

Part 6 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi Removing Speakers, WiFi Aerial Etc From Top Section

Part 7 - Replacing Broken Case On A Nintendo DSi Replacing Hinge Plate Fixing DSi

I hope some of you find this useful.  I'll be creating a full fifteen minute single version tomorrow.  As with all repairs I take no responsibility for anything you do, do not under any circumstances work on a unit with the mains adapter plugged in and do not short circuit the battery.

Cases are available on eBay

Please check out the videos and given them a like if they are helpful.
